A couple years ago in small-town Iowa, several communities that were 100% Swedish and Danish had quickly become 20% Latino-almost overnight. The business community was having difficulties understanding their new neighbors. Dr. Chip got a call to come help one community understand their new neighbors. They reasoned that since Dr. Chip had has feet in both the Latino and Anglo worlds, he might be able to help. This started a series of Understanding Latin Americans presentations made to eight chambers of commerces in Iowa.
At each of these chamber events, the attendees included not only business people, but also superintendents of schools, the mayor, the county sheriff and countless other community groups. Since then, Dr. Chip has presented to dozens of business and civic groups.
Two years ago, Dr. Chip started working with The Maids International, a franchisor based in Omaha, Nebraska. He trained their new franchise owners in understanding their Latino workforce and more specifically, how to hire, train, and retain their Latino employees.
Along the way, we developed an internet-based training program for their franchise owners. The positive response of their franchise owners was “off the charts”. Towards the completion of this project, The Maids International encouraged us to market this training to other businesses. They felt our training was unique and filled a niche need that was not being met.
While the training in and of itself is of tremendous value, we have an additional incentive. Pearl Group was formed under the umbrella of CFCI, an NGO that helps in community development and specifically, children at-risk. Our purpose is to help others, so all profits received from the sale of our training program go directly to helping children at-risk around the world. Whether it be feeding programs, providing a home to orphans, or a much needed education, CFCI is working to better lives around the world.
